@thepolyglotmag_ and @gladlyglobal_ are projects I started dreaming about as a middle schooler.

I don’t really make money on Gladly Global, but I didn’t start this particular venture with money in mind. I started it out of pure passion and compassion for the language community. I also wanted a space to practice my skills as a speaker, a teacher, a community builder and marketer.

As a result, I’ve focused my energy into building community, supporting other learners and creating a safe space for people to ask questions and interact with me and my peers. The magazine is an extension of this focus, where we began to collect wins, inspiring stories, advice and helpful tools into a beautiful package.

We’ve had a lot of wins in the time we’ve been working on Gladly Global officially, but admittedly, it’s been very slow.

A lot of what stunts Gladly Global’s growth is Impostor Syndrome.

I’m a content marketer by trade, and I know what facilitates growth online. Yet, when it comes to my own projects I get kind of shy and anxious about doing things professionally. Inside of the team, the general tendency is to try something new, add another thing to our plate, instead of focusing on getting more reach for what we already have. This happens because we’re afraid to really put out our work into the world. It’s easy to get excited about something new, when the things become real, it’s easy to back down and to keep it to yourself.

I already know what we do is phenomenal, it’s a cut above the rest and our mission is so crucial and inspiring. Finding the strength to believe in ourselves is a slow journey, but it’s slowly happening.

That’s why I recommend everyone have a side project.

Regardless of who you are or what your goals are, having a long-term, zero pressure project is a sure way to lay your insecurities out in the open and conquer them one by one. It could be a writing project, a start-upā€Šā€”ā€Šor it could be creating the home you always dreamed of, it could begetting into investing. Whatever it is, have something where the only person you’re convincing is yourself.
